"My work is a combination of science fiction, real technology and abstraction. Each piece is loosely based upon a scientific theory, field or concept, most having to do with our desire to extend ourselves as individuals and a species. Most recently I have focused my attention on bio-technologies; cloning, organ reproduction, and nano technology. My understanding of these fields is vague, allowing me to fill in the blanks as I see fit. The reality of these technologies is less important to me than their implications. I am more interested in what they reveal about our desire for immortality.

I use these concepts as a starting point and apply my own system of working as a painter. All of my work is created on groupings of wooden panels measuring 1', 2', or 4' square. This allows me to significantly alter my composition at any time. I am able to add or replace large sections with new panels, swap sections with other works in progress, or simply move panels within the composition. The panels are not joined until I feel that the work is complete. I also use the physical boundaries of each subsection as a compositional guide. As a general rule I do not allow colors to cross these boundaries, but line work can. I have found it challenging to create unified compositions, and single paintings often split to form two distinct new works, which in turn may split again creating a type of lineage of related works."
