Window

The window opens with good intentions
But ends up in the dark

It would like to be a frame
Gilt-edged and smart

It would like to be a wall
Stoic unblinking

It would like to be anything

Anything but this

This mirror without appetite

Barry Seiler has published four books of poems: Frozen Falls, The Waters of Forgetting, Retaining Wall, and Black Leaf. "Dust Jacket," "Window," and "Pincushion" are part of "Flotsam," a sequence of about thirty poems. He divides his time between urban northern New Jersey and rural upstate New York.
